Sunday After Theophany
January 14. Leave-taking of the Feast of the Theophany.
Commemoration of our Holy fathers who were martyred in Sinai and Raitho.
A group of holy monks who lived on a summit of Mount Sinai called Rathio were killed by Bedouin tribesmen in the year 400, in the days of Emperor Arcadius. This led Emperor Justinian to build a large fortified monastery on Mount Sinai in 527, that of St. Catherine which is still in existence.
Scripture Memory
“And he gave some as apostles, others as prophets, others as evangelists, others as pastors and teachers, to equip the holy ones for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ” (Ephesians 4:11-12).
“From that time on, Jesus began to preach and say, ‘Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand’ ” (Matthew 4:17).
