January 7. Holy Synaxis in honor of the Prophet and Glorious Forerunner John the Baptist.
On this day John the Baptist is honored for the part he played in the event celebrated on the day before. The Synaxis, or gathering, is an occasion for the people of God to come together and hear the voice of the Forerunner preaching penance for the remission of sin.
Scripture Memory
“And when Paul laid his hands on them, the holy Spirit came upon them, and they spoke in tongues and prophesied” (Acts 19:6).
